Schengen Countries change rules on the 90/180 visa

Apologies if I have misunderstood the situation and additional rules have recently been introduced.

No they haven't its just that notwithstanding what the legislation actually said until recently the 180 days was being counted forward from the day of arrival not backwards from day of departure effectively meaning that previously it was the visa 180 day period that what was important for calculation of the allowable 90 days . This is exemplified in the chart attached to Marsupials post and the common advise to "nip over to Greece for a night then return". Now with the 180 days being calculated backwards from day of departure this could overlap on to a previous visa and time spent in Turkey towards the end of the previous visa be counted towards the 90 days .It sounds as though your spreadsheet reflects this many don't and that the Schengen countries will on the 18 October adopt the same backwards method of calculation.

I agree that the best way currently for anyone staying beyond 90 days is to obtain a Residency Visa but be aware that next April the rules regarding these are changing and it is unlikely that you will be able to get a residency visa which lasts longer than a year and even that will be recinded if you spend 6 months or more away from Turkey. This is particularly close to my heart as my current residency runs out next May
