For us non-frilly-shirted types, I'm afraid you're going to have to define what makes a cushion a "scatter" cushion.

Also, anyone with 4, 8, or 12 of them is going to have trouble with your poll :)

I can see no reason to be less comfortable when not sailing on a boat than at home. Especially for those of us with short legs.

Scatter cushion - usually square, tastefully chosen to complement with the decor, sits on top of the boat cushions, falls on the floor if the skipper is careless enough to allow the boat to heel or in the case of an AWB when it broaches.

Surely no-one would offend the gods of feng-shui by having an even number of scatter cushions?

Mrs pvb had bought the cushions before our new boat was even built! Daren't say how many, but they are very comfortable and look good (she has impeccable taste, naturally!). I just stuff them in one of the cabins when sailing.

I hate the things, on shore or boat; ex-SWMBO made some very good looking ones as a hobby, but all they do is stick in one's back and ruin a comfy chair; you have more chance of finding Kiera Knightly on my boat than a ******* scatter ******* cushion !

For those who have complained that they fall on the cabin sole when sailing, try putting them into a cabin until you are tied up/dropped anchor.

We have 4 of these dubiously articles onboard. The toleration comes from the fact that if anybody goes overboard, they will be chucked out quickly to make a trail for MOB recovery.Anything else non essential will also be chucked over too.(christmas tree?)

Swmbo has the sense to put day covers on our pillows for comfort in the cockpit or for lounging in the salon at anchor. Nothing on a boat should be single purpose unless that purpose is essential & cannot be covered by an existing item.

Must have had 15 of the things on Rhoda Rose when we bought her. SWMBO likes them. I have slowly been losing them over months. Down to 7 now. Still going to 'lose' a few more. Hope she never looks in the yard skip!

This is very sensible. Or pillow cases to fit on the scatter cushions.

Okay, so that the scatter cushion function, what are the other functions of the scatter cushion?

We have got a wooden turtle called Tommy, whose sole function is to be a wooden turtle.
