Agreed about the turbulence affecting the upwind aerodynamics, but won't relative wind from abeam and astern in fact benefit the propulsion ? Somewhere there must be figures for the % of time cruising sailors spend on various relative wind angles ?

I can't find anything ATM.

Since it's a well-known fact that the wind is either too strong or too weak, and always from the wrong direction, the turbulence will always be an issue

lattés mast can be noisy but its is easy to climb as its got built in steps.

Its also easy to to pull halyards through as you have access to the inside of the mast
