With the state of the economy, how about a self build from a complete CNC kit in wood (or fibreglass), trailor home or minimal mooring fee, water ballasted, boom tent for an occasional overnighter, 'verandah' for kids to get out of the weather, little sailing boat? With the pram bow, you either love it or hate it, any views from the panel?

Capsize test here:

The world would be a poorer place without such boats; but the fact is, for a fraction of the price of even a kit one can buy a much more capable secondhand boat, fully equipped...

12' is tiny tho. I do like it, it would be great for taking the g-kids out on Bala Lake or similar but impractical for overnighting with SWMBO, but as already said, there are so many pocket cruisers on the used market for under £2K.

The guy building #24 seems to be building his own version with TWIN masts. Liked the discussion on building centre boards out of ply. No one said anything about half the grain going the wrong way. The picture at the end showing the correct way of laminating strips of cedar brought back a few memories :)

My first Cat had centre boards of 1" ply, laminated out of 2 x 1/2" boards glued together so that ALL the outsides were running up & down, that way only about 1/3 runs the "wrong" way.
