Based on my experience if they have offered you 200 euro non refundable I would go with that it removes any uncertainty and simply becomes an insurance payment. I wish we had been offered that option!!

Thanks again for all the advice. We've decided on a Chaparral Signature 280, booked with Yacht Base.

We're doing a 24m ICC course in May (I've already got 10m but I thought I might as well get some practice in before we go). I've got two pilot books, charts for my iPhone (just for fun) and most importantly new boat shoes

Ah, now that means I don't have to piss on your parade! The whole concept and the area is a great idea. But when in your original post you said that you had done sailing flotila holidays in the past and had your ICC power up to 10 meters, I was going to get some training first. The SC 29 is fine, up to a point. It has a stepped hull and can be a bugger in reverse! You never quite know which way it's going to go! Z1ppy may be along later and he had one!

The conventional hull on the Chaparral will be easier to get to grips with. You say you are doing your 24 meter ICC in May. Are you doing it on a stern drive boat?

Not ideal - but as long as it's on outdrives (?) - that is more important so you know what to do with the helm.

Definitely outdrives, I made sure of that. We did wonder whether the flybridge was a good idea, but I think we'll be OK.

happy to read about your booking. The Chaparral is for sure big enough for two. We too were considering chartering in mid-May, from Trogir. But didn't book yet, what are your exact dates?
