SBS

The thing is, if they had loads of these girls mingling and offering directions instead it the rucksack wearing lot, loads more people would go. I know that sounds sexist, but its true. I don’t think women in general are that bothered. Well they can’t be? Their mags are full of almost naked women so it obviously doesn’t bother most of them. And if it’s that they don’t like the fact that men like it, it’s nothing to do with them really, that would be like saying I don’t like the fact that some people admired Michel Schumacher when I was a Damon fan. Its none of my business.

the flybridge on the Princess 45 was 10 years out of date: who wants to sunbathe in a dead bit of space behind everyone else and in the shade of the seating?

Wiggo,

In HK, that arrangement is actually preferred. Most boats over 40' are crewed, and the owners don't like the crew ogling their wives and daughters from the helm, a-la Aicon 56.

£9.50 ? so you found the cheap ones. Where were they?
I dont think the food was that much more expensive than any other ticket event.. music concert, Beaulieu jumble, legoland etc? Actually £5 for the two sausages in a roll wasnt bad grub. Its paying for stuff that makes you retch thats irritating.

they used to have larger boats I remember the year before Phil & I came out to Spain (2002) Phil was skippering a Squaddie 55 on the try a boat bit.

Ho hum I see most comments have been about bloody leggy blondes or whinging about the price of food, which is always over priced at these places anyway.

How about some observations on the boats displayed guys and gals?

OK Clive here goes,
some interesting things going on, as clothes seem to be going in a retro style so do boats, we are getting away from this all white standard looking boat, at one point all the manufactures were going for the same look , now they are getting back much more to a type of brand identity look again.
At one point you had to look for the make sign on the side of the boats to identify it, now you can begin to tell by shape again.
they are introducing slightly stranger colours for interiors too, yes the pale cream looks great when new , but does not stay that well with out a lot of up keep.
They are also going for comfort AND practicality too. more padding on seats, more hand holds, cleats in better positions, you also notice that you can tell what market the boat is aimed at , sometimes by the options list and by the way things are set up on the boat.
There is also more variety to choose from, classic looking boats with modern speed capability's, sports boats, hinting buy me for fun, speed and sex appeal, Ribs in every shape, colour and speed capability's. the list is endless, I think this years show is great. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just a few observations on what i remember really - i remember walking round and thinking - yes these boats are very nice and very expensive but I feel some are taking a step backwards in design, and the AWBs of 30-40' are beginning to look too samey, save for a few like the Azimut S series, the Absolutes, and perhaps the beneteau MC 32 (which is a boat i like but I found that the chrome bar lining the windshield was right in the drivers' eyeline, and when the sun reflected off it like it did last sunday, i could barely see out the front...)

Basically i just found myself not being able to indentify between brands - are they playing safe with design or am i completely missing it? I think it's probably the latter but that is what i felt anyway /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great food and wine at Cuccinis on the quay again, and parking for £3.00, short walk from Gate F.
Show was good for me....Loads of new business, and happy past customers.

I picked up more orders/leads in one day here than I did spending 9 days at the London show on a stand with demo set up.

YBW beer was appreciated as it was getting a bit warm yesterday.

Boat wise I liked the Arcona yachts which would suit my cruising racing, and work wise had great feedback from Nordhavn Ferretti and mtu. So I'm looking forward to Genoa.

Listening to Geoffrey Fairbrother's less-than-enthusiastic announcements over the show PA. (anyone remember hi-de-hi?)

The silly girl in an ice cream booth, who wouldn't take a torn but complete £5 note. I fished a tenner out of the moths, and got her back by refusing to take the £5 she offered which had a biro mark on it, making her swap it for a good one. SWMBO thought I was horrible to her, but she didn't stop laughing for ages after /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Watching Calm Voyager doing a perfect 270 degree turn and reverse alongside the berth in a stiff on-shore breese without drama... impressive! (I hate him!)

Paul's new boat and that big sunseeker... both awesome.

Faroe Yachts. Think they've only built one so far but if they keep the prices they were quoting at SIBS they will be worrying the likes of Beneteau with their Swift Trawler. With the profits they might buy the lad who showed me round a razor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
