At least the batteries were well charged when he arrived. But why didn't he buy a mobo? Did he learn to sail later? I've heard of many "experienced" delivery skippers/crews just thrashing the nuts off the engine for hours/days cos they were too short handed, or couldn't be bothered, to sail. After all, it ain't their boat or engine and they don't care what hap ens to it after the delivery
 
I think he (the original dinghy sailor) should be congratulated for his level of pluck and given a free Anderson 22 & a Yachtmaster Offshore course! He probably didn't realise that many a fibreglass small yacht can be purchased for less than the cost of his beach boat, though they would be somewhat harder to carry down to the beach at Osmington...

Clearly he was completely taken aback by the presence of sunshine in UK waters, but I do think he should have taken greater precautions; perhaps a packamac would have doubled as both bimini and foul weather gear?
