Save cash on train travel

But does it consider every possible way of saving money? e.g. London to Glasgow - does it just do the west coast route or does it also consider the east coast route?

I don't know, but it does give you the route details. The ones I've looked at all returned at least a £15 saving over the standard fare - just for 'splitting the journey'.

I just entered Birmingham to Plymouth for tomorrow. Standard fare is £110.50. It suggests I buy tickets from Brum to Cheltenham and Cheltenham to Plymouth, saving £42.50.

Works Ok on the desk top ...couldn't do it on the tablet thing!

Brilliant result though £41.35 for SWMBO's regular journey to York

compared with £27.70 bought "over the counter" in advance.

I think we will stick with buying at the local station.........Needs to book a seat anyway!

Ah, yes, if you know well in advance when you want to travel you can get cheaper advance tickets, but that's not a luxury everyone enjoys.

I couldnt get that to work either but peaked my interest so in the attempt to save fuel driving down tried trainline.com : smbo and me with 15yr old daughter , midlands to portsmouth open return - £175 off peak , £350 peak, £450 1st class. How the hell does anyone afford to use the train, that's outrageous !

How the hell does anyone afford to use the train,

It may not be cheap but it would cost SWMBO considerably more to drive and she'd be driving for over 4 hours into the bargain.
