When the sea is filled with plastic, our plastic clothing disconnects us from the elements and our Kevlar boats are invincible there will be no more romance in sailing and no need for Arthur Beale's. It will be a bad thing. This is a lovely old (400 yrs) shop struggling to survive. You can help. Phone them up and make your next purchase from them. 194 Shaftesbury Avenue, London WC2H 8JP tel:+442078369034 15 minutes walk from Kings Cross no connection, just a fan of this recent discovery.

Looks like it's just been saved already!

Bought by Alasdair Flint (I assume of Flint's theatrical chandlery?) when it was about to close under the previous ownership.

Seems like it's in good hands, open realistic hours, taking on more staff and running some interesting-looking events. I wish them every success.
