sarum 28.

Re: Sarum 28.

Hello - a mate of mine has a Sarum 28 in Poole, and he has nothing but praise for his fine vessel. She sails well, has bilge keels, is virtually indestructible being ally, has no risk of developing osmosis, and I am sure that the ally work is still in perfect condition today 25+ years after she was built.

I used to dream of owning one one of these boats..quite a departure from the 'norm' in the '70s

I chap I knew was was always bothered about anyone dropping loose change into the bilges! (coppers that is)...I suspect that corrosion due to mis use of replacement parts is likly to be the principle worry with one of these.

Good luck, nice boat .. Nick

I have a bilge keeled Sarum 28 built in 1977. She is an excellent yacht IMHO: Immensely strong, very roomy, stable & sea-kindly. She needs a bit of wind to get her going - not much of a light airs boat, but from force 3-4 upwards she's off and has a surprisingly good turn of speed. No worries about corrosion as long as you avoid copper alloys in your fittings and be careful about electricity. The Sarum was featured in the used boat review in Sailing Today a few months ago, the verdict was very favourable, you should be able to get a reprint.
