Our 10m yacht is overwintering on the hard at Port Saint Louis.
Next year we would like a slow cruise to and around the above Islands.
We would like to overwinter in that general area and move on into the East Med the following year ( If God grants me another one!!)
We don't want to be on the boat for the entire summer season especially not July and August where we want to be elsewhere.
We wouldn't want to spend the winter aboard either though we would possibly consider a month over Christmas ( to escape the UK 'festivities' bah humbug!!)
I am happy to spend time at anchor but my wife is more of a marina person!
I wonder if we should try to book into a marina for a whole year ( somewhere geographically central?) and use that as a base or just 'play it by ear' until mid season then look/take advice for an overwinter spot.
Clearly leaving the boat in a marina for July/August could be quite expensive ( though we may tempt someone else into using those 2 months)
I read the thread about Licata with some interest and would certainly like to visit. I guess a plan may be to book in there early, cruise Sardinia and Corsica, leave the boat there for July/August, return for the late part of the season and put the boat to bed in October.
Can anyone help/advise on this plan or suggest an alternative.
I have already had some good advice on the various ports/places and anchorages around the Islands for which, many thanks its more of an outline 'master plan' I'm after
Have to mention Jim B's excellent advice and information.......... beer money will definitely follow!!.
Thanks guys

Hi, we have traveled from Port Saint Louis to Sardinia and Corsica this year... we are about the same length as you, and have had no problem all season apart from a couple of days in August. We have ended up in Port Taverna in Corsica for the winter, but there was plenty of space just about everywhere as long as you are not looking for storage ashore... Only thing that I would worry about was getting space for July and August we spent most of the time at anchor in those months...

best of luck with whatever you end up doing.... did u come down the Midi or the long way round?

We done some of that this year , and if you look you will easily find good places to anchor , the only problem is going to be is. Finding an marina in July and Aug which isn't going to loads of dosh , one place I can suggest if you don't mind crossing over to Italy is , in the canal at Frumicino , there are a few boat yards and the charges are around 15 Euros a day but it not a marina and you will be rafted out although I wouldn't want to leave it there in the winter with all the stuff that comes down the canal without being on board .

Thanks guys, that's good info. We came from UK up the Seine and down the Rhone.

2 possibilities in Sardinia for summer leaving are: a buoy with Sardanautica in Pozzo (Mario on 338 9542094) - charged us 15 a night for our 9m cat; Marina di Sole in Cagliari, which charged us 20 a night in July (weekly rate). Pozzo is ideally placed as a base for exploring NE Sardinia and S Corsica. Worth asking about a longer term contract on their pontoons.

For laying up ashore we're very happy with Nautica Pinna in Bosa - expensive lift out but very reasonable storage, leading to the best deal we could find for 6 months.

I think I'd look at splitting your stays; for the summer the Marina di Sole in Cagliari, as TonyMS suggested, offers good value (for Italy) and good airport access; Licata or Ragusa for the winter. That way you can explore Corsica/Sardinia earlier in the season and Sardinia/Sicily later giving yourself options if the weather turns bad or your plans change. Just be aware that N Sardinian marinas can be exceedingly expensive in July/August and sometimes June & September too.

Hi. Sorry to hijack the thread but also looking for a place to keep the boat for winter and feel it's relevant to OP as I'm looking for a base in same cruising area. Currently in Corsica, plan to head to mainland in 2 weeks, rome area. I had originally planned to winter in Cagliari (marina del sole - good value and place to do work/supplies) but having stayed there a few weeks keen to see a new area.

Can anyone recommend a good value marina on the mainland, pref not much further south than Naples as we're a bit late in the season and don't want to risk weather too much (yday 8+bft at anchor...).

I asked marina base nautica Flavio Gioia already but they quote €400 p month in winter, more than twice what marina del sole charge (11m) and more than I was hoping to spend.

Need some small jobs done no major overhauls luckily!

Hi, we are in Corsica at Tavena we are on the hard for the winter, 8 mths €2600... we are a 10m cat so we get charged 1.5.. so I guess u would be a fair bit cheaper? Just a thought... if you want me to get a firm quote, I'm happy to ask.

Best of luck

If your in the office I would really appreciate an idea of availability and cost for 12 months May-May next year for 10m yacht.
Cheers

Well I did my best, and as far as i can work out the max is 9mths?... for 10M mono looks like €1784??? Strange no 12 mth price

Given that the peak months around that area are July/August (and sometimes bits of June and September) it'd be worthing checking that the price includes those months
