I lack the courage to get out of the bunker and will send this by carrier pidgeon.

We have had a number of years of articles on anchor testing, maybe most mags publish one every 2 years. If one looks at the articles there are some anchors that stand out as being better, call them 'Better', than the others that tend to be older, call them 'older'. Roughly speaking the 'Better' ones are 2 times as good as the 'older' ones. The anchor makers can continue their 'War' and debate which is in the 'better' or 'older' camp later.

The anchors in the 'better' camp offer a decent choice, convex, concave, flat, roll barred, alloy, steel and stainless - there is something for everyone.

This information is not perfect but it is there. You can argue as to which articles are biased etc etc but most people could pull out a number, 4-6 articles they think refect a decent view of the current status.

No go down to any UK marina and count the number of yachts with a 'better' anchor on the bow roller, or go to the London or Southhampton boat shows and copunt the numbers of 'better' anchors on those new yachts.

Basically the yachting public and the boat builders are thumbing their noses to the information that is published. When you consider that most people who read these specific forums are either converts (though they might not yet have bought) or simply here for entertainment then the time the anchor makers spend here is wasted. The anchor makers instead of guageing each others and everyone elses eyes out might be better employed converting the 95% that are thumbing their noses.

Trying to be constructive and working within reality (or is that mutually exclusive with anchors), what tests would the buying public like to see that might better explain to them why they should consider converting (upgrading?) to a 'better' anchor?

Anchor makers can introduce a bit of reality when people respond but spending all you resource preaching to the converted and stabbing each other in the back does not look a sensible way to a profitable industry. And if there is one thing we all need its a healthy a vibrant industry.
