The promise of a decent weekend was excuse enuff to skive off early on Friday afternoon to catch the tide up to the freshwater bit of the river and a chance to check out all the bits done to the boat, prior to our trip up to Teddington in a week or two.
Blimming marvelous weather for the whole three days.First thing to note is that your Thmaes type paperwork is now in force at our lock, it takes lots longer to fill in and yes we would like to inspect your insurance paperwork Sir !
Told a tiny bit of a fib about boat length.
Parked in Maidstone town centre next to a few livaboards.
Guarantees a quiet undisturbed time as they they take great objection to anybody causing problems around that bit of the riverbank late at night.
No trip is complete without some new little problem, one of the engines was running a bit cold and of course it was the one that heated the water.

Perhaps a set of wheels might help

The river is now getting very busy with rowers, however they seem to be a much more friendly bunch than the ones you get up there, esp. the young lady ones.

Dear oh dear, moored at Maidstone with stern facing upstream, absolute shower!

Well the I did initially park the other way round but it was helpfully pointed out to me that the sun was being cut out by the front of the boat and it would be in my interest if we turned round so she could sunbathe out of the wind..

Those Bollards......look impressive eh !
All window dressing and never designed to be used.If you look carefully they are all a bit wonky. All that connects them with terra firma is a weedy bit of 1" reinforcing rod and of course as soon as somebody actually tried to moor up the blimming things either snapped off or bent. Sigh.
