Hi all,
Any recommendations on where to leave the boat to take a trip to Santorini would be much appreciated.
I realise Ios is the closest but maybe not the best place to leave it?
Has anyone used Naxos marina?
Your advice is welcome.
Regards, Debs

I have used Naxos Marina. It is a private marina, so does not necessarily care whether you want a space or not. For that matter Naousa is pretty much the same.

We left our boat in Ios and took the ferry across to Thira/Santorini. The boat was totally fine. We were lucky to snag a berth with a lazy line though.

Cheers, PT

If you can get a berth in Ios that is the best. If you have to use your anchor be careful as there is a chain on the seabed - from memory about 30 mtrs out from quay. The travel agent on the quay does a good deal in which you take the afternoon ferry, stay in a cheap hotel and return by ferry the following morning. One way normal ferry and the other fast catamaran. That way you see Santorini at night and early morning after and before the cruise ships crowds.

We moored W side of Nea Kameni after checking with a cruise ship water taxi, then dighied to Santorini. They were fine with this as long as we only stayed 1 night. A German boat told us one of taxis had taken them across from there for €15.

We moored south/East of the caldera... blue roofed little church directly north of your mooring. .. sandy bottom etc. But we stayed on the boat ...

A good few years since we went, but assuming it's still there, the marina at the bottom of the island was whole lot easier to enter/leave and had more depth than the Gospels according to St Rodney implied. Alternatively, we also once left the boat in Noussa on Poros and did a day-trip by fast-cat ferry.

We sailed down from Ios into the Caldera and moored on the east side of Nea Kammeni in the bay just north of Ormos Kakaki .(36 24 11 N 25 24 24E)
This bay can be busy during the day as tripper boats bring customers over from the town to swim in the hot springs but if you time your trip ,you can moor overnight on one of their many buoys, have a hot dip , and take the dinghy over to the main harbour next day. There are mooring buoys further out from the springs which seem to be OK to use during the daytime while the tripper boats come back & forth.

The Marina on the south coast is OK , but a bit bare. You can hire a scooter from there and do a tour of the island.

The sail from Ios into the Caldera is unforgettable ,in the best possible sense, not to be missed.
