Hi Guys we are getting in to the marina on Monday and was wondering if they will have the world cup on in a bar in the local area and any recommendations on restaurants as we have not been there before. Thanks

What sort of restaurant do you like?
Lots in the town - excellent steak restaurant but it opens late - like 9pm
Very good tapas place with a roof terrace.
The restaurant on stilts in the lagoon is good - two there

They kindly streamed the rugby World Cup in the marina bar a few years ago, so no need to go too far for your football fix.

As Jez said, plenty of good restaurants. Not been there yet, but there is supposed to be a very good Indian restaurant in town.

If you are there until the weekend of the 23rd, the town holds its solstice celebrations on Saturday night, finishing around 04.00 on Sunday....

We'll just miss you (leaving today) . We like Tapasanta and also Noray, both a short walk from the marina. I imagine the marina bar / restaurant will be showing the footie. They do a reasonable steak in there too.

Not sure about the Indian, I take it you haven't driven past!

Food in the Indian is ok(ish) but is the only Indian in town.
It is more of a "take away" and also a kebab restaurant.

I once fancied their Doner Kebab Calzones - but when I plucked up the courage to buy one, it was disgusting.
Actually, I thought the idea was good - it just turned out horrible.

EDIT
I would be very surprised if the football wasn't on the marina bar TV - after all we are in Spain and they are very keen on their football.

Thanks for the advice, we have 3 meat eaters and 1 vegetarian if that makes a difference, the Steak place sounds good. Will check it out.

Now you know why a bidet function is a must , for the sake of the Vilbrequins - eating that sort of stuff :):):)

Ps the :):):). Donates an assumption of a sens of humour —— not serious if I understand etiquette.

Be careful
My SWMBO is veggy but does eat fish - which is fine in SC
However, that steak restaurant doesn't have much for non-meat eaters.
We have seen the odd Cod (Bacalao in Spanish) but generally, there isn't much for veggies in the steak restaurant.

I suggest that you log into www.scmchat.com and click on the Map link (it is still called "New Map" - I must get round to changing its name sometime)..
It is an interactive map that shows points of interest to SCM berth holders.
Click on the drop down list in the left pane and select Restaurants - then click "Show All" to see all the restaurants in the area.
You can then click on the name of a restaurant in the left pane and it will show you where it is on the map and display a photo in the bottom right of the screen.
Zoom the map in and out - it isn't restricted to the town - in fact the software can show restaurants anywhere in the world.
There are lots of other categories - shops and supermarkets etc - oh yes, and anchorages.

Mar y Luz is always a favourite.
For good value Pizas, have a look at Picolo
El Calu for good Spanish food.
The Taj Mahal is there!!
The Bonsai is always open and great value
Tapasanta is very good - (like PeteM says)
I like Noray - sushi and Sashimi
Xiringuitos is the restaurant on stilts out in the lagoon (Actually, Xiringuito means beach bar but in SC everyone refers to it as the one on stilts)
Further afield, a very very good restaurant is El Pinar but it is too far for a night out - great if you are visiting Las Fuentes in the boat.
Also a long trek in a car is Carp Diem - very strange place but great (not expensive) food.

But in town, you can't beat the Miami Mar - the best Hotel in town,
You don't have to be resident in the hotel - they do a "tasting menu" but you have to be hungry - there are loads of courses.

I hope that helps.
If you don't know SCMCHAT, it is a forum for Sant Carles Berth Holders run by us Berth Holders - no financial or organisational connection with MDL.
The SCM manager and staff do provide some very useful input to the forum though.
It is free to use but you have to register - just browse to www.scmchat.com and register.
We manually check registrations but James usually approves members within a few hours.

We ended up getting there yesterday on the Tuesday, the marina has a great pool and friendly staff but very expensive for 1 night, I can see the advantages of the lagoon for water sports but did not like the town, it was a bit quiet for us and there seem to be a lack of a holiday feel but was only there 1 night so might be difficult to judge?

Next month, it livens up - during the Spanish holidays.
Yep - apart from the holiday months, the town is quiet but that is its attraction for most of us.

I don't know the prices for one night but when you look at a whole year, there are some terrific deals to be had.
A big contrast to the prices on the islands.
Even keeping a small boat in Sant Carles, there are tens of thousands of euros pa to save.

Good to see that the staff were friendly - the manager comes from a hotel background so he tries to make it feel like a resort.
The pool has always been a key attraction - most marinas in the Med don't have pools - Sant Carles' pool is particularly nice.

We will be out there next month for the rest of the summer.
SWMBO is particularly looking forward to the Aqua Aerobics every morning in the pool.
