Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone has taken a berth here and what are your opinions so far..good ,bad or indifferent ?

Not finished yet but ready for use.
Great potential IMO.
I have a 20m berth there.

Here's a couple of webcam pics form about 2 weeks ago

Hi Hurricane
Do you know if there has been a good uptake of berths to date ?
The Spanish certainly know how to load on the taxes ,IVA ,G5 etc and I thought our crowd here (Eire) were good at it .

If you're non resident then you should escape most of them see:

David I would have thought surely that residents would fair better, ie that non res would get the lot, a bit like non res used to get charged 35% CGT on property sales.

I'm only picking up vague bits and pieces as I go and only related to boats (CG rarely applies unfortunately!) but just to quote one comment from my links about wealth tax
" Short stay sailors First and most importantly, a person staying in Spain for less than 6 months is not liable for wealth tax or re-registration of his boat and, as far as is known, they can leave their boat in a Spanish port, over the winter say, with no such liability"
However I think Spaniards (and residents) have a different attitude to tax than us and are more creative in avoidance. We just "pay up"

Judging by the list here HERE (scroll down) some berths are already being sold on and the sale/rental prices are some of the lowest I've seen in the W Med. I'm sure it will develop into a v nice marina complex but it does suffer from being a long way from a major airport

Mike, you keep going on about this.
Its actually only 50mins from Reus and a little more from Barcelona airports - I dont consider this is far at all.

BTW at the prices shown on your link, I've already made a good gain so when the marina's finished I should be considerably up on the deal - so its a better investment than UK property at the moment as far as I'm concerned. But thats not the point - even as early as next season, this marina will offer us much more than any of the marinas that we checked out between Sant Carles and Alicante. Its also a very spanish part of spain - something that we particularly liked. My parents had a villa about 25 miles south of Sant Carles, so we know the area well.

Also, dont underestimate the advantage of a pontoon berth in the Med - I can even unload my dinghy beside my boat without moving anything. Big bouns.

Hurricane, correct me if I'm wrong but Reus is only served from 1 UK airport by Ryanair with only 1 flight a day so S Carles is only 50mins from an airport until O'Leary decides otherwise. For most people Barcelona will probably be the main access airport for S Carles. The proximity of an airport to the marina depends on how you do your boating. If, like me, Med boating consists of long weekends or other short periods, then turning a 5 hour journey to your boat into a 7 hour one is real PITA. We spent a season in Denia which is about 100m from Alicante or Valencia airports and that final 2 hour drive after an often delayed flight on a Friday night was one of the major reasons why we moved to Palma. However, if your Med boating is more relaxed and consists of long periods on your boat, then obviously a 2 hr journey from the airport is not a big issue
Yup, pontoons might be an advantage for unloading a dinghy but a lot of stern to berths give you access by car. I can park my rental car right behind my boat and that makes unloading luggage and shopping a whole lot easier. Not to sniffed at when you've got a SWMBO who brings her whole wardrobe when she goes boating and can't go into a supermarket without buying the whole bloody shop /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Points taken but, for us, Barcelona is served by Easyjet at Bristol - only an hour away from here in Devon. I'm not sure what you mean by close - the difference between say 45 mins and just over the hour doesnt make that much difference to us especially if it means arriving at something thats very spanish.

And as far as stern to berths are concerned, I'd much rather have a boat that isnt rubbing against her next door neighbour than have the car a few feet (and I mean just a few feet) further up the pontoon.

As I say, next season, Sant Carles will (even by then) have facilities that outstrip every other marina all the way up to Alicante. For example - on site swimming pool and club facilities without the hussle and bussle of a major town marina and then of you like, the actual town is only a five minute walk away. There is absolutely massive investment going in here and the longer term development has significant potential.

OK - so I'm new to cruising in the Med but I do know and like this part of Spain and in my view it doesnt rule out short cruises to the islands where you are based - IMO a bit like a cruise from the Hamble to the Channel Islands but with much better scenery and weather - I cant wait.

Ryanair fly in to Reus from Luton, Liverpool & Birmingham. Thompsons also fly in form most uk airports and there are a lot charter bargains to be had. Weve had no problems finding flights and are paying a fraction of the prices that we were paying to Palma and Alicante when based there.

Regular and very cheap flights from Luton to Reus. I now go out once a month - just returned. Two return flights, priority boarding, on-line check-in (brilliant both ends) Hertz rentacar with AC, all for £100. Takes 45 mins (90% motorway). I have a 12m berth. At last visit, MDL had crane/hoist in place and were just removing the shuttering to the swimming pool! Ebre Delta nature reserve next door, many miles of excellent flat sandy beaches with easy anchorage and some very nice people already out there. I just cant wait for the summer, which I expect will start as early as Feb/March! Mind you, even last week I could have taken Buster out several times, it was so nice, but had some minor repairs to complete. MDL have had a couple of problems with welding to the Walcon pontoons, several failed, my boat was on one of them! But I would highly recommend it so far! Loved Torquay/Dartmouth, but expect I will like this marina even better. You can even book cheap flights now for June! MK-Torquay 3.5 hrs with traffic in summer a real pain, MK-SCDLR door to boat in just 5 hrs. Recent picture as follows (first time uploading, not sure if the URL will read but here goes):

Mike

I have now posted a seperate thread with some images (now got the hang of it - by looking at the properties on one of your images then registering on photo-bucket!).

Look forward to meeting you out there in due course. Am I correct, was Dave hosing down Jenny Wren just last week! Dust is inevitable I suppose whilst construction work is underway, but I must say it cleans-off very easy. I am really looking forward to this year, had an interesting trip across to Majorca and back a few months ago. Probably do Denia/Ibiza next!

John

hi everybody my boat is also at sant carles on v pontoon called adagio itry to get out there once a month and enjoy every minute of it

Yep - JennyWren did have a wash last week - Richard, another guy from Torquay is out there at the moment - so he washed her for me.

Hi Superchip - welcome to the forum

There seem to be quite a few of us on this forum now who have boats in Sant Carles.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Mike

simon (and other SC residents), I stand corrected then. It seems that Reus is better served than I thought. Is it possible to fly in on a Friday night and return late Sunday/early Mon which would make SC a viable option for weekend boaters like me?

Only looked at Ryanair from Birmingham this weekend. Out 06.35 Friday back 22.10 Sunday or 15.30 Monday. £67.06 return inc. Taxes & fees.
