Sanitation hoase - which brand ?

Hi,

Having decided to replace the heads outlet hose in Sunrunner I need to know whether any particular brand is better than the others ? Any ideas what is the sweet spot for price vs performance in sanitation hose ?

I've not been a boat owner long enough to know what the sweet spot is. I do know that my boat stank from old cheap hose when I bought it 5 years ago, I immediately replaced it all with Vetus "no-smell" (~£20/m currently) and I don't need to replace it yet. I don't have the experience to know how long this stuff will last or how long other stuff *would* have lasted. prv (I think) and others have recommended some marginally cheaper hose from ASAP (seaflow??) in the past.

Lowering the frequency of dealing with outlet hose doubtless does have a monetary value...

Ask jfm, either by PM or with a post on the MoBo forum. He specced a lot of changes to the black water on his boat and put his usual effort and incredible level of detail into it. In fact for changes read "pretty much redesigned it". I can remember him explaining exactly what the best hose was and why on one of his posts.

Grey butyl Seaflow hose from ASAP. I remember because I was re-plumbing Ariam's heads at the time and immediately ordered a load of it myself - if it's good enough for a JFM project it's good enough for me

No hint of smell so far (though of course most hose would probably still be ok after a mere three years), and it also has the advantage of being much more flexible and easy to work with than the traditional stiff white stuff. Slips onto hose barbs a treat, and off again a few years down the line if you need it to.

There is an EU standard for sanitation hose, 8099:2000. I guess that any hose that meets that standard would be OK.

It is good stuff having replaced all my hoses on both toilets earlier this year. However it is grey and SWMBO would have preferred white so I had to initiate a charm offensive. ☺

I use Seaflow from ASAP. Can be bent into ridiculous curves without kinking although it costs a lot.

I now use the white Vetus hose, despite its cost, it accommodates any small variation in the diameter of the hose spigots.

I helped a friend install a new loo with the ASAP offering, it's ease of fitting on its own makes it worth the money over the cheaper offerings.

I used Vetus when I replaced both inlet and outlet. Easy to get on the fittings.

Don't get plastic (white hose), spend the extra and get Butyl Rubber lined (grey or off-white). Worth every penny. I bought both five years ago and the plastic is already beginning to stink and I am religious in keeping it flushed out!!!! The grey Butyl is no problem!

Now you tell me (having replaced loo and hoses in February...) At least I have five years to change it or sell the boat for a bigger one
