Compendium of queries -

Sandwich/Pegwell Bay - Is it any use as an overnight anchorage in settled weather?

Boulogne I seem to remember reading here recently that some problem had taken part of the marina out of use, resulting in restricted availability for visitors, but can't find the thread. Anyone know the current situation?

Newhaven Similarly, there's been mention that space in Newhaven is currently reduced due to accommodating wind farm service vessels. Does anyone know does this mean no space for visitors; space only if you're lucky; or no problem for visitors?

Boulogne Marina has all been fixed, I came away from there 2 weeks ago and it was all done.
Pegwell Bay....there's been a lot of activity recently to do with the Thanet windfarm export cables which come ashore across Pegwell Bay. Last time I looked there was a jack-up rig there and a hefty tug sort of craft to move it around. Might have all gone now, though. Never thought of overnighting round there, nor ever seen anyone do it.

Jack up and tugs seem to have gone from Pegwell bay, they weren't there Tuesday - unless they are just taking a break during Ramsgate week.

Can't see why you couldn't anchor there in decent weather. The area just south of the southern harbour arm shows on the chart as an anchorage - and location of power cable is also marked on the chart.

Just seen your question regarding Newhaven too. We stayed there on Sunday night. Called a couple of hours before arrival and they said there should be room, but they do not reserve berths.

We arrived and all was well. We had a chat with the couple who seem to be running the marina and they said they only have 2/3 all tide berths available because of the wind farm boats, but they are certainly still accepting visitors.

Newhaven. Two weeks ago the wind farm vessels were moored on the other side of the river, That doesn't mean they don't use the marina though but the are a bit too bit big to fit in.

Yes, I thought I remembered that, but could't see it on any of the charts I have at home. I was also wondering about the south of the bay (and river), off the golf courses, and have just seen that Navionics web app chart shows this as an anchorage, though at 7m, so maybe intended for bigger than me - I'd go further inshore.
