Sandwich and Beyond

It's many years since having a few overnights at Sandwich . Is there much to see after Sandwich ? and is it a dinghy trip or a Mother ship trip ? I draw 2' down 5' 5" up . Any news if the bridge opens still ?

I did a virtual trip via Google Earth the other night. Interesting area. The Richborough Roman Amphitheatre looks good and also a WW2 prison relic. Later it becomes the Great Stour and you could probably get close to Canterbury in a dinghy. I expect the area was an early cruising ground for Mr J. Caesar & Co.

Great Chapter about this exact trip in Charles Stock’s book ‘Sailing just for fun’. Mind you it was quite a few years ago when he did the trip and his boat ‘Shoal Waters’ could float in a damp sponge !

IMO this book is a must read for any East Coast sailor.
