Sanding pads

I'll need to 'light-sand' a coat of Vinyguard Primer, ready to accept more of the same. The preferred tool is a 'random orbit sander', and I'd prefer to buy Non-Clogging discs.
It is suggested I consider Mirka Abranet non-clogging mesh disks.

What does the congregation think?

Mirka abranet are very good, If expensive.

other less-clog available esp on ebay.

I would go mirka for a small area. If you have a large area then experienment by getting mirka and another cheaper brand to see which works best for your £.

Hi.
I would not use standard discs after using Abranet mesh disks. However please note that the grade is not the same as standard wet and dry !, i.e. 80 grade Abra is approx tthe same as 160 in wet and dry.

I use latex rubber cleaning blocks which quickly unclog abrasive belts and discs.

An old shipwright told me he never bought abrasives, he just fished out of the waste bins the ones discarded by amateurs!

If you have a velcro pad on the sander, you can use tough floor cleaning pads from floor polishers used by hire companies. They are about 2ft diameter and come in various abrasiveness. Much much cheaper than mesh abrasive, especially if you ask thehire company to sell you old pads from returned machines.

+1 on Abranet. I have been using it for a few years now. Only downside is that I have found that the circular sheets can detach from the velcro on an air powered sander and have to be replaced before the grit has worn out.
