Suggestions on the best way to sand the bare hull after removing antifouling etc. please. Have hand scraped back to wood and will be sanding before priming soon . By Hand or power? - and if power what type of sander? (She is 38' LOA, 25' waterline, long keel).

I suppose the first question that I have to ask is are you happy that the planking is fair? If not, it will be the agony board for you until it is fair. A coarse grit, probably 80. If you are happy that it is fair, what kind of sander do you have? The one that you have beats the one that you haven't. I would strongly recommend [required by law here] is one with a vacuum cleaner attached to catch the dust rather than have you breathe it in. Many wood dusts are as toxic as antifouling dust.
Peter.

Thanks - The planking is fair and in good condition.
I have been in PPE for the last week scraping so no snags there.
Our law is not that tight with regard to sanding wood, but we do try to keep the yard as tidy as possible (and keep work as safe as possible).

Cheers

Yes she is...well spotted!

All nicely sanded and being re-fastened on the sawn frames to keep her nice and tight.

For info, I hand scraped her with a bahco scraper - excellent bit of kit and then sanded with a bosch random orbital. The scraping was long and tedious but achieved the best result. I tried a small amount of Interstrip on a difficult to scrape area and it was a disasterous mess - just ended up wasting 2 hrs of scraping time and making a general smeared mess, stinks and drips horribly off anything more than vertical.
