hi all

i know this will probally have been done to death and i have read a few other threads but cant find my answer

has anyone got a samsung galaxy tablet running android with the jellybean softwear which they have got an app for to use the tablet as a back up plotter

i have been on the google play store and looked but it says you have to buy the eurpoe softwear BUT this does not include the uk

all help appreciated as always

cheers shawn

Yep, currently running a Galaxy Tab 2. Works really well, the only issue is you cant see the screen in bright sunlight, not that it's been an issue in the UK this year

Navionics have an App but their support/backup is ?rap
It works but is only good for planning IMHO

I use MM Tracker
Much better but uses Memory Map QCT charts (v 2 only)
Also not available on Google Play these days - look on other Android markets for it.

Here you go...

If it doesn't install then go to Settings/Security and check the option for "Allow Install of Non-Market Apps" - usually called Unknown Sources. Once you've downloaded it and installed it you can uncheck the option again.

cheers grumpy yes i have been on that but i cannot find the bit on the tablet to turn off non market applications

i have done it on my samsung mobile phone but dont seem to be able to turn it off on my tablet  so it wont let me download the memory map app

wow i am confused all this tech stuff is blowing my mind im off fishing tomorrow for a rest :D

FWIW, I find the main problems are screen size, readability in sunlight & battery life. It's OK in the cabin with a power lead & my reading glasses on, but pointless at the helm where it could be a useful gadget. But you guys steer indoors so it may suit you better.

hi hurricane
i have loaded the mm tracker app but i cannot work out how to load a map onto the app can you please explain in plain english to a newbie :o:confused:

thanks shawn

MM Tracker uses Memory Map's QCT format charts.
A QCT file contains an image of a scanned chart and all the geo referencing information for the app to position the chart at the correct position.
You simply copy a QCT chart file into the appropriate driectory/folder.
I'm away from home at the moment so cant help, I'm afraid.
Maybe someone else can help.

We're not all sitting inside, you know...

I found that a smaller device overcomes this problem because you can more easily hold it in a way that allows it to be readable in bright sunlight.

These days, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab stays in the cabin for general duties i.e. weather, tides, news, games, etc whereas the less power hungry Galaxy phone is used for navigation, anchor watch, etc.

Navionics' charts are much nicer but their route planning is seriously lacking compared to Memory Map, IMHO.
