Since we've had a few threads on ships aground recently, this may be of interest. At the time it was the biggest salvage operation ever. Interesting to see the differences in working practices, too. A bit of oil in the water isn't too much of a problem, and hard hats and lifejackets are for wimps!

Thank you for that. Fascinating stuff. Excellent planning and execution. I was involved ( in a relatively small way) with getting the Exxon Valdez off the rock in Prince William Sound, Alaska.
 
Fascinating, biggest D shackle I have ever seen, some impressive splicing of big wire ropes and such competent engineering. Worth watching again.
