Salty song lyric's or poems.

Re: Leonard Cohen ....

[ QUOTE ]
I have that very song on album of his and yes its good - but have to say that I have to pick when to listen to any of it .... as it is incredibly sad ... literally the whole album ...

Found myself after a few beers really morbid after a few bars of Cohen .......

Really have to be in the mood ...... !!

[/ QUOTE ]Not really relevant, but do you know 'The Lost Canadian' (I think that's the title?). I don't agree with 'music to die by' or other such. It is like listening to Debussy or some gentle adaggio... glass of whiskey, eyes closed... ahhhh. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Eyes closed music ...

<<It is like listening to Debussy or some gentle adaggio... glass of whiskey, eyes closed... ahhhh.>>

For me it has to be classic rock&roll or something like Dark Side of the Moon and its Headphones and beer .... Eyes closed and off to another world !!

SWMBO has her's and cannot understand the HP's on and lay back job !!!!

"Breathe in the Air" ..... !!!!

Re: Eyes closed music ...

We are on the same wavelength. I think DSOM is probably one of, if not the, best recordings technically that I have come across. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

"Tis only me from over the sea"
said barnalce Bill the sailor
"Tis me whose come to sleep with thee"
said barnacle Bill the sailor
"You may sleep upon the mat, you may sleep upon the mat,
you may sleep upon the mat"
cried the fair young maiden
"BGGER THE MAT YOU CAN'T EFF THAT"
said barnacle Bill the sailor
reapeated
Maybe this will jog your memory, it goes down hill (thankfully) from there on

Re: Salty song lyric\'s or poems.

A little old man of the sea
Went out in a boat for a sail,
The water came in
Almost up to his chin
And he had nothing which which to bail.

But this little old man of the sea
Just drew out his jackknife so stout,
And a hole with its blade
In the bottom he made,
So that all of the water ran out.

Floyd

Given that it is unlikely that we will see The Floyd perform live again (although they've not ruled out the possibility after Live8) I can heartily recommend The Australian Pink Floyd.

If you are a serious Floyd fan these guys are absolutely note perfect. I saw them last year in Manchester and they did the complete DSOTM album start to finish. They have the light set from the Earls Court gig and the whole thing is awesome.

They tour UK every year so if you get the chance to see them - dont miss!

A little known Dylan song

Oh the time will come up
When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin'.
Like the stillness in the wind
Before the hurricane begins,
The hour that the ship comes in.
And the sea will split
And the ship will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking.
Then the tide will sound
And the waves will pound
And the morning will be a-brea - king.

The fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls they'll be smiling.
And the rocks on the sand
Will proudly stand,
The hour that the ship comes in.
And the words that are used
For to get the ship confused
Will not be understood as they're spoken.
For the chains of the sea
Will have busted in the night
And be buried at the bottom of the o - cean.

A song will lift
As the mainsail shifts
And the boat drifts on to the shoreline.
And the sun will respect
The every face on the deck,
The hour that the ship comes in.
Then the sands will roll
Out a carpet of gold
For your weary toes to be a-touchin'.
And the ship's wise men
Will remind you once again
That the whole wide world is wa - tchin'.

Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep still in their eyes
And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin'.
But they'll pinch themselves and squeal
And they'll know that it's for real,
The hour that the ship comes in.
Then they'll raise their hands,
Sayin' we'll meet all your demands,
But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
And like Pharaoh's tribe,
They'll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they'll be conquered.

Re: Floyd.... and others

A friend of mine played a CD in his bar one day and I sat there .... kept running through my mind is it Floyd ... no never heard them do this .... The sound and style was very good and you couldn't help but identify with Floyd ....

The band was a short term affair called : FM

If you like Floyd .... try and get to listen to FM ..... sadly not together anymore.

Another time I was in Montreal Canada and went to a nightclub / concert hall .... the band playing was a Canadian outfit called Gypsy ...... they played a few Floyd and others songs ............. very very good .... I don't know what happened to them - but after the concert I spoke with the lead guy and he reckoned they had just signed a recording contract .... this was in early 80's ....
