Saltwater inlet Pump Tap in galley, What Options are there

Faucet is actually an old English word, derived from French, but it's also correct that it's what the Americans call a tap. It is also used to describe a water outlet that has no tap. frinstance

In the original discussion into the outlet for a foot pump water system was to use a spout as no control of the flow at the outlet is needed.

A faucet is defined as a control device the same a we English use the term tap.

noun faucet

any device for controlling the flow of liquid from a pipe or the like by opening or closing an orifice; tap; cock.

noun spout

a pipe, tube, or lip like projection through or by which a liquid is discharged, poured, or conveyed.

Presumably you'll have a seacock on the inlet. This would safeguard the pipework from and to the pump.
A tap on the outlet would only protect the pump membrane.
I'm slightly confused - I'll stick to calling it a tap (unless its a spout) but I don't want a spout as if I cannot turn it off - my yacht will eventually sink :(
