Saloon table legs: make or get shorter?

My saloon table has two legs like this, with matching sockets on the table:

I want the table top to be a couple of inches lower. I can't just cut the legs down, they are tapered. (Measurements for my reference: OD 57mm tapering to 54mm over 50mm, length 710mm. Sockets OD 190mm, 8 holes at 162mm C/C)

Suggestions?

Cut the legs to the required length then take the legs and offcuts to an engineering shop and ask them to make spacers (to fit in the floor sockets) to suit.

Is the internal diameter the same as any standard tube size? (Appreciate it's hard to measure given the taper.) If so, I think I would cut a section out of the middle, slide a length of tube inside to sleeve the join, and pop-rivet the whole lot together. Alternatively you could use wood and stainless screws.

Take them to a stainless steel fabricator, with the mounts and ask him to shorten the tubes and re-form the taper. Would be the neatest solution.

Only other option would be to cut an inch out of the middle and re-weld, grind and polish - possibly with a tube on the inside as strengthening. IMHO, pop-rivets or screws wouldn't look like a professional job.

If you're not bothered about them remaining stainless steel ...

.... get a cabinet maker to turn some new teak legs of the required length, cut the tapers off the stainless tubes and fit over the end of your new teak legs with epoxy. Varnish teak to a nice finish to match the table top.

Different lengths available on fleabay - searched on " caravan table legs" - there are 600, 810, 700, 760 avail for around £26.00 in stainless

Have them cut at the midlle,trimmed to length and Tig welded back together.
