Saloon table . Do you have one ?

The best yacht tables experienced so far by First Mate and I are undoubtedly the Island Packet aft cockpit models where the table is hinged so it folds upwards and conceals the drinks cabinet. A folding leg, retained in place by a simple press type popper, holds it up when the bolt is inserted into a reinforced sole recess.

So impressed with this simple idea I incorporated it into our Kiwi boat by using the bed board as a table.

The far simpler Kiwi boat, alas, has no drinks cabinet.......................

Thanks to the positive and instructional feedback of this thread, I have resurrected my
saloon table.

Have worked out a way with piano hinge to keep it handy but easily out of the way
when not required.

The table is in good condition but has the odd light scratch but am reluctant to gently sand as
the veneer is not that thick.

I used spray furniture polish, Pledge enhancing polish that says it shines & protects fast and easy shine. It smells good too . Has largely overcome previous odours of combined salt air, last weeks curry in the bin and sailors general musk.

On my 10.1 meter, 33 feet in old money, boat I have the usual folding table. Its brilliant when wanting a big working surface onboard, fantastic when visitors arrive and we open a few bottles, allows me to plan passages and spread out and with the double berth set up in the saloon keeps the sleeper from falling on the floor! I have no plans to remove it.

I always admired the cabin tables on Nicholson boats at the old Earls Court boat shows, fitted on a very solid aluminium alloy base. Now I’ve got one and it’s as good as I thought it would be.

Satisfying thirty years of curiosity I reckon it’s welded out of two spare ends of mast section. Anyone know?

I'm thinking of doing away with mine as it is rather intrusive for a small boat.

Being mostly single handed I tend to read and plan full stretch on a quarter berth . I tend to eat on my lap in the cabin or alfresco.

What is your setup ? Perhaps an easy fold away might be an answer.

My boat came with a beautifully made but rather complicated folding table which stowed on the main bulkhead. I removed it in order to fit a charcoal heater in the same place, and replaced it with a two-sides-fold-in teak table with a single leg plugging into a socket in the cabin floor. The table lives in the quarter berth, from which it has not stirred in at least two seasons.

I've got a solid, permanent saloon table with a bottle store under a wooden lid in the centre - it's very robust. :encouragement:

It doesn't fold away and doesn't convert into a bed .... which suits me fine because I don't like getting up in the morning and clearing bodies and bedding out of the saloon before I can get on with making breakfast.

I made a folding cockpit table when I was building DistantShaws but have never used it.

This is the centre section with the leaves stored in the lids of the side locker/seats.

I started to make the saloon table but not finished it as I find that antable just gets cluttered with junk/work in progress.

Thanks for the tip. ...

My pleasure. I’ve just noticed that the make I linked seems to be supplied only in sets, which could be expensive for a trial, but others can be bought by the stick and two or three of the right colours might well be enough.

I ripped the massive intrusive saloon table out of my Sun Odyssey 32.2 some years ago - best thing I ever did.

I replaced it with a table that also doubles as a cockpit table. When not in use it folds up and can be stored securely clamped against the bulkhead wall. I have loads of space to move around in the saloon now, and access the storage under the berths.

I can set up the table in seconds when I need it.
