Getting closer to the water! 2 children, 7 and 9, old table with nasty corners fitted. Any thoughts on taking it off for the first few trips this year so that the risks of head injuries are minimised? Alternatively, thoughts on replacement? Elizabethan 30.

it may have corners, which could be rounded maybe, but it's something for them to hang on to for support. No-one has come a cropper on our table but they've often hung on to it!

Hi mine are the same ages, they find our table very usefull for all sorts of activities while we are away from colouring books to home work. Also due to their little legs they have problems eating in the cockpit with a plate on their lap as they are unable to put their feet on the floor to keep the plates level and eating with the plate on the deck next to them is uncomfortable. Besides it gives them something familiar in an alien enviroment, IMHO.

Invite yourself on board one of the Twisters built by Uphams of Brixham. They were fitted with a very nifty saloon table that folds up against the bulkhead when not in use. Might suit your boat.

Our saloon table converts to a double berth - when sailing with the children (albeit much younger than yours) we drop the table into the berth position to make a safe, padded play space for them - the leeclothes can also be used to keep the little ones safe

Also make sure it is strong enough for table surfing. Clinging to the table as the boat bounces through the waves is extreme fun.

(but this is with kids who think that zero-g in the forepeak is also good fun)

Dont worry about the corners. Something else will hurt them. Probably falling over on the quayside afterwards.
