Long time since we've been but last dog adored the beach at East Portlemouth. Is it still possible to take a dog ashore anywhere there ?

There this Summer, and the only beach that clearly says no dogs (cant recall the name) is I think East Portlemouth (where the ferry comes in, and is met by the tractor on raised wheels.) The sign is clear as you come down the hill from Salcombe right on the edge of the beach. Of course if you tender ashore you would never know and I am afraid spent a happy hour or so throwing the ball for the dog having landed from the tender with non one taking any interest and a few other dog owners doing the same. (doesnt make it right ;-} ) Didnt see signs on any of the other beaches but could have missed them. I suppose technically below the high water mark you may do as you wish - but that isnt the point and I hate dogs fouling any beach, never mind ones used a lot of kids.
I thought that most beaches, including below high water, were crown property and your use could be restricted.
A lovely spot.
