I was heavy handedly making fun of his interview technique, he kept pushing the old man with fast questions thats all. If it had been me I would have said it jokingly to his face! I enjoy his films.

You could sort out my b/band connection for me! Downloading videos is a complete waste of time - a 3 min clip will take me 15 mins to watch and I couldn't be bothered, no matter how good it is!

I will come over with a screwdriver on tuesday at 4.00 and sort it out for you.
The website is basically a download site - you download stuff overnight and watch it the following evening - inless you have fast connection. Which I don't and few sailors do

How big is yer bath? LWL of a pentland is 25ft, allowing for overhang if you fill the bath to the brim. I guess if you opened the bathroom window on a south facing property you may get the swly prevailing wind for a broad reach to the soap shelf, but you will need to put in a few tacks to get back to the taps.
Maybe you motor back you Burmunghum navy type!

What was wrong with that comment? Seemed fair to me - nothing malicious in Dylan's assumption or Ninky's comments.
It was a pretty polite comment by the standards of many on this forum or do you believe that only men should make robust comments and dis-agree with others?

Dylan asked a light-hearted fun question to what appears a majority of other halves who don't go sailing. The source of this assumption from this forum and seeing most small boats are either solo sailed or mates together. I was looking forward to reading some pithy and amusing responses.
Then a post arrived from Clare in the sodding community and the thread has turned into yet another miserable whiny back-biting tirade, yet another YBW depressives anonymous group meeting.
I'm out!

on a destination.
3. Just being out on the water together.
4. Working as a team to sail the boat.
5. Arriving after a long passage and opening a bottle then sharing a meal.

The uncertainty of arrangements due to weather (are we going or not)
The unpredictability of weather when out there (you never said it would be like this)
Boat suddenly heeling in a gust (we are going to die)
She likes
Warm still evenings nattering with friends over a glass (a common theme here)
The full cockpit enclosure when it's cold or wet (new this year)
The holding tank (new this year)
Just the weather to sort out now!

...you know, I can never work this one out. When I am helming on my boat or other people's I am more aware of heeling and gusts than when I am crewing (my boat or other people's).
Does that mean if you give a nervous crew the helm they will collapse in a jelly-like heap in a gust?
I've also noticed it only seems to take one nervous person to spread the contagion and soon you're all holding your breath when the mast swings over and waiting for permission to breath again.

I know what you mean. She wouldn't take the helm in gusty weather (assuming she was there in the first place!). It's all about trusting the boat and/or the helm - hmmm

you know what I find so amazing about this is how many partners - lets call them that as I don't want to be put in the "Mr Sexist" naughty corner again - love us so much that they are prepared to come sailing even though when we pass the bar they will almost certainly never set foot on a boat again
What a great insitution a "partnership" is.
I can never really predict when Jill will be coming down to the boat so if the weather man is calling for some lovely sunshine and light winds she will decide to come with me.
I have to send her for a short walk so that I can quickly clean the galley area before she is allowed on the boat
and then promptly cleans it all over again
needless to say the heads are scrupulously clean as they are the bog of last resort

Bored children, sullen teens, bored and frightened wife who gets apoplectic when she sees the yard bill. Lets face it, sailing a small boat is not a family friendly hobby.Great hobby for a few mates though.

Depends on the family. I don't have a missus or kids, but my brother and I once *were* the kids and we were never bored or sullen on boats. My mum was and is more keen on sailing than my dad, and is a better helm than him too (except under power in close quarters, when I will happily admit he's better than both of us).
I have a female friend who is new to sailing but loves it, including the fully-reefed, green-water-in-the-cockpit parts.
