Sailing with teenagers

A new experience is about to take place :eek: A couple days with 14 and 13 year old granddaughters aboard. Tonight in Bradwell, tomorrow out to the windfarm and then Shotley. Wednesday to Ipswich as they will need retail therapy by then. As long as there is good iPhone connectivity or wifi we should be alright :)

They are boat trained but have yet to experience wind over tide up The Wallet :eek:
 
As I've said before, given them then muckiest & worst jobs to do, send them up the mast and make them do the cooking/washing up. They'll then feel like real sailors.
 
I'm with Johnalison on this. I made the GKs leave all electrickery at home and they really enjoyed themselves. It was kind of hard work explaining how to warp TG round in the marina "what do you mean Granddad, 'take a turn'"? but we all survived it and enjoyed it.

With a 15 and 11 year old daughter I banned mobile phones on board or they would be texting all day - quite literally :eek:

Suddenly you move to living in the moment and experiencing life as you are connected to it rather than connected to whoever made your phone bleep most recently. As soon as they step ashore in Ipswich they can text till they drop!

Good idea.
Will they get a bit mutinous in a couple of years time though?
 
Mutiny usually arises from loss of confidence in the skipper's competence and in this respect (and others) children and pirates are alike. Once the father (usually) loses his nerve, a child will detect this and her sense of self-preservation will cut in.
 
We used to love the weeks on the boat when we got the chance as teenagers - as others have said the rule was that mobiles had to be switched off whilst on board and it was great! Plus the fact that we were always much better behaved for our grandparents than we were for our parents for some reason... ;)
 
We set off from Bradwell in the rain - a good start to the easy life of sailing:D

At son's suggestion they both had a Stugeron - one slept most of the way! They did like the big ships in Felixstowe. They are both reading obessives. Drifting up the Orwell on a nice and partly sunny day they both lay on the foredeck reading. Phone use has not been too bad - I borrowed an iPhone for a forecast so shouldn't complain.

They do love food - The Shipwreck did well :eek:

In Ipswich - back home on the train today. I think they enjoyed it!:)
 
Hi Guys
Sat at work in Ipswich (near the big building with 'The Mill' written on it).
In fact you would pass my office if you walk up town to Sainsburys.
If you need any help getting somewhere or transport, let me know. I have an appointment at 11:30 for around an hour but ok other than that.
 
Pirate weekend

Being a newboy here...that wouldnt be a Somali Pirate weekend..if so count me in..Roger and out...:)..ps give some cordinates
