Sailing Trousers

Craghoppers walking trousers with a knee pocket. Zip-off legs optional. Zipped off legs only when the thermometer gets above 30.

I've got several pairs from almost new, good enough to go to the pub to the ones I wear for painting and scraping barnacles. They seem to move down the scale every time I think it's just a quick job, I can't be bothered to get changed

+1. Craghopper Kiwi trousers - great for sailing and walking. Got the standard ones, plus fleece lined ones for winter/early season and combi/zip leg shorts ones for summer. Very practical and quick drying.
Cotton / jeans are not really suited to sailing or walking IMHO.

Also started using CragHopper shirts as much easier / quicker for washing when away from base.

I'm trying to reduce the clutter! I find that the only thing I need on me aboard is my trusty Leatherman. The big pocket is mainly used for wallet and phone when going ashore without a jacket. The main reason for getting Craghoppers rather than other makes of equivalent quality is that I usually find them in TK Max for half the price of Blacks el al.

I have found that cheaper makes either wear less well or take longer to dry after an unfriendly wave or shower, though Regatta seem OK

+1 to all points.

I really rate the Musto Essential UV Fast Dry Trouser and in fact have just purchased another pair from Wetsuit Outlet for half the original price. They are very comfortable and do exactly what they 'say on the tin'. I got a good soaking a month or so ago and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the trousers dried out. In warmer weather I nearly always wear shorts.

Agree that there is a need for discipline regarding gear carried despite the pull of the extra pockets provided. Mainly the weight issue.

If you are going above say wallet, phone, multi-tool , vhf, banana , extra rigging is required i.e. belt AND braces . In that case I think red braces would be acceptable.

I use craghoppers when they are on offer but today been to Go outdoors and bought 3 pairs of Hi Gear Cargo trousers for £13 each, does not come much lower than that, light weight, water splashes off and easy to wear under waterproofs

Talking of the pull of the extra pockets, would they fill with water if one managed to end up in the oggin and would the extra weight be enough to make a difference to getting back onboard? I've often wondered that with some foul weather gear too as the drains on the pockets are usually tiny or just non-existent.
