Ok that was boat speed not wind speed! Not certain how we managed it I can ashore you its no Anderson 22.

I think the transducer did something silly when we bounced on a wave...

Deformation & Cracks anything else I did not notice?

How did you get it undone???
With mole grips on the pin, surprisingly easily I do not think there was much strength left in it...

That is a feature of Seatalk. There is no error checking in the protocol (which is a major oversight), so noise on the line can lead to junk data.
Good to know if t was not for the ability to plug the auto pilot in to the wind direction I am not certain I would want wind gear on my own boat again. I certainly trust my eye on the sea as much as the instruments.
 
165 kt was probably attainable at the masthead given the wind strength, providing that the mast is tall, the sails well reefed (furled?) and the sea state vile; Imagine the boat getting rolled violently into wind. One would expect the electronic damping of the instrument to mask such effects, so maybe they are relying too much on the inertia of the cups. Maybe you can tweak the damping electronically?
