The forecast is looking really good- my lads trip has dwindled to 2 of us and I can't decide whether to do a short hop to the Dart and go to the pub early, or have a more meaty passage ( ooer) and go to the Yealm or Plymouth. I like the Ferryboat Inn at Dittisham and the pubs up the Yealm are a bit of a hike. ANy good pubs in the Plymouth area?

More specific?? Just looking for a pub that's not heaving or too loud and has good beer and food.

Cheers

bit of a shortage of pubs around the tamar. There's the edgecumbe arms at cremyll though not too easy to moor nearby, the crooked spaniards at cargreen which is tidal though i'm told there is a visitors' buoy if you arrive at low water, or a choice of 3 on the waterfront at saltash with the free parking on the council pontoon don't know how rowdy they get on saturday night but i'm wary of any pub painted with a vast union jack (known to some as the 'bigot's arms').

with the wind in the N & W this weekend you could anchor off cawsand and dinghy ashore. we like the halfway house between kingsand & cawsand.

The wind is also forecast to drop and stay offshore this weekend, so Cawsand could be a great option- never stopped there before. It's still tempting just to keep it short and whizz up the Dart where I know the beer and smoked prawns are good. I also need to drown this cold in beer.

Re: Borrington Arms

It's the only pub I know in Plymouth, and given the circumstances I'm a bit hazy about exactly where it is. As you go into the sound, you hang a right, past the ferry etc. and there's a big marina on the right. It's near there, to the right (south?) of the MOD depot. Beer's good, cider's not bad for that part of the world :), they do some pretty basic but edible pub grub and its a bit noisy, with folky type musicians at weekends in the summer. It looked like they'd tried and failed to tart it up a bit this year. Smallish 2-part bar with a sort of conservatory at the rear which is quieter. Pretty barmaids. I liked it.

Re: Borrington Arms

It's spelled Boringdon (I think) and, as you can see from <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=PUB&Number=232116&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1>this post</A> it's been mentioned admiringly before.

Mind you - I'm not sure if I'd risk going into a pub frequented by HLB and LongJohnSilver /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Borrington Arms

Was there again a few days ago, just as good. If not to your taste there's also the New Inn about 50 yards away, beer just as good but with excellent food at very reasonable prices!
