Sailing sunglasses...a question of style and taste, or are some better than others?

Gave up wearing sunglasses years ago (they never made me look cool anyway) and found I can do without them when others are wearing theirs or when SWMBOs photochromics go almost black.

A peaked cap seems to cut out most of the glare as far as I'm concerned.

How else are you supposed to gawp at scantily clad ladies surreptitiously? Generally they're not so much sunglasses as perving goggles.

bought myself a nice pair of Bolle, polarized lens and definitely the best purchase. They look cool and my eyes are well protected from the glare of the sun. The only downside is that they were not cheap £95 a pair. Considering how easy it is to loose a pair. :-)

While I sort of agree (I'm not into labels) you need to remember how some labels became designer. Oakley for instance made sunglasses and other eyewear with no distortion first and foremost so that people could do various sports more safely. The cheaper brands put no effort into this and I've had several cheap pairs which have had odd lensing effects which make quick reactions for things like cycling impossible, Only once they were associated with sport did others start to buy into the brand to look "cool". Same goes for Musto, Henry Lloyd and other sailing brands - they made good kit and worked their way up to being a label. They still make good kit, and probably still considerably better than the cheap stuff but unfortunately the premium price puts many off. It's worth some investigation as to why something is popular beyond just assuming it's a label :)

I agree and I have ponied up for Dubarry and Musto gear that has served me well. However, I was rather dissapointed at a recent visit to a Musto outlet store to find it full of overpriced Indonesian Rugby shirts, shorts, baseball caps etc. There were a few items of last years sailing gear at the back of the shop. I think Musto have "done a Berghaus" and cashed in their reputation to sell a load of junk in addition to their good stuff.

The Henri LLoyd store was even worse!
