The Viz comic recommends standing in a cold shower threading and rethreading the shower curtain whilst having your wife flush fivers down the toilet. Can anyone improve on this?

Leave the bathroom window wide open, and get her to dip the fivers in diesel before flushing for that authentic smell. It would be great if you could get the toilet to block. You can use musty smelling damp towels, it would add to the flavour. Also useful would be a slightly faulty drain with no fault that is immediately apparent. It would also help if the light flickered or blew bulbs. Soap in the dish should be dry and cracked, with the evidence of having wood screws drawn across it for lubricating them.
