Just noticed that BBC2 has a 30min program on the Americas Cup at 23:20 on Thursday Oct 3rd. Make a nice change fron the Footie/Rugby/Tennis/Golf circuit we usually get.

Looks like it is the 1st of a weekly series

Guaranteed to have lots of drums thumping away with a heavy beat to make it
exciting or sweet "sailing music " in the background to provide enchantment for the
long range shots.
I must be missing something for I've never heard it when I have been at sea.
Has anyone else?

I have. It was coming from a boat parked up on the other side of the pontoon a couple of weeks ago.

They wouldn't turn it down.

I started up the outboard and fed some extra oil down the carb. A wonderful smoke screen and a lazy wind blew it straight down their hatch.........they turned it down.

Apparently this will be a weekly feature during the Louis Vuitton cup (e.g. until the end of Nov) and there will also be slots on Grandstand on Saturday pm.

Let's hope the quality of the coverage is better than they managed for Sidney 2000. IIRC it is being presented by Peter Snow!

I do remember that the year it was held in Freemantle/Perth WA. It was the most fantastic event. I'm not that much of an Ozziphile but I think I was Alan Bond who was running the media organization with the battle cry "G'Day WA" I think that was the year of the Ist wing keel lieraly shrouded in mystery.

They really know how the make TV sport come alive and not appeal just to the "anoraks"... I think TV has learnt a lot since then, and Peter Snow is at least a serious sailing man amoungst his other talents Fingers crossed for a good show!

As an indication of the Beebs comitment to sailing, they showed a very brief clip on Breakfast TV today. Afterwards Rob Bonnet said, if anyone thought cricket was boring, we've got months of this yet to come.
It's obviously not as interesting as a footballer taking his shirt off or going to a bar.

I thought the quick slot this morning (7.35am) was quite good considering - but somewhat spoiled by the presenter's innane comments, both about the duration of the series, and the complexity of the qualification.

Looking forwards to this evenings Eurosport slot - see if that's any good.
