It’s been a glorious week at Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, though we too have had plenty of teasing the boat along in the lightest of breezes. It can be frustrating, but sailing at low speeds, and working to get the best out of the conditions you have has its own rewards.

Some of my best sailing days have been just achieving hull speed in light airs on a dead flat sea. Very calm and therapeutic.

We are having a heatwave. Was due to sail a friends yacht this afternoon with the wind forecast to freshen. However, he phoned me yesterday to say that his house plumbing had sprung a big leak. Plus his bike had fallen on him and he had cracked a rib. I've decided to call him 'Lucky Alan'.

So I called another oppo and we took his yacht out this morning. There is a heat warning in place for the eastern Canary Islands. And it was hot. Heat haze obscuring Fuertaventura just ten miles away. Sea state calm and just very light wind.

Betty Swallocks. No shade. However, the sheer enjoyment of a couple of hours teasing 2 knots boat speed in very light airs made it very enjoyable.

Having spent a lot of sailing time in a different commercial world, it's a delight to be able to arrive, prep boat and be off in fifteen minutes. Makes short sails fun!

Highly recommended. ?
Almost as good as having the boat on a mooring infront of the house AND having the fine NW of Scotland sailing on your doorstep (and it never rained.....)

Keep him talking while I go and let his tyres down. Bounder.:)

I have just read the Uk newspaper headlines on line. "The Star" is saying there will be a heatwave starting from Thursday.

My attempt at mirth went awry! I pictured you in shorts and wellingtons - and NOTHING else!
Anyway, having grown up in County Durham and driven over the A66 in winter I know full well want a jumper is - essential for 4 a.m. delivering of newspapers!
Sadly I am no longer in Ross-shire, but back down in North Yorkshire - I suppose to avoid confusion I ought to change my signature, but I would be back up there as soon as I win the Euromillions.......
Changed it ???
