Just spoken to a friend who returned from CI's friday night saturday morning. They were aware of a storm building up directly aft and upwind as they were returning to Plymouth. Prepared for the expected downpoor and gusting wind.
Wind evaporated but lightning show lasted for an hour and a half. No direct strikes but were glad to escape unscathed. Worst problem was the lightning and rain swamped the radar images just as they were in the main traffic lanes.Vertical heavy rain and lightning flash destroyed night vision and made ship spotting more difficult.
Glad our boat will be safely tucked away in the hold of the ferry when we cross channel later this year.
