Sailing in France

If you have a small "powered" boat ie a Tender I'm that you need a I.C.C.
If you took a Trailer-Sailor to France do the French demand some form of License for that?
I know that you don't need one here but over there...

I am not sure you are correct.
If you launch a power boat from a trailer in France (even if you are not going inland) I thought you needed an ICC?

You can use any boat under 5m on the canals without a licence or vignet for the locks and any boat at sea with an engin of less than 9.9hp also no SSR

If you use an 8m(for example) boat with a maximum 9.9hp on the canals you will need a vignet and licence. Once your at sea you wont need a licence in France but will in Italy(for example)and SSR

I am not sure all of the above is quite correct.

In France you need a licence (UK equivalent ICC) to drive a motorboat anywhere - Canals/rivers/sea unless the engine is less than 3HP..

In France you do not need a licence to drive a sailing boat - even one with an auxiliary motor.

You probably need some proof of ownership if it were demanded by the Gendarme or Customs which is pretty unlikely. If it is a trailer sailor or dinghy I really cannot see that a SSB (Small Ships Register) certificate would be required - particularly as it will be on a UK plated trailer.

Sorry, wrong in one part at least. A tender has always been considered to be part of a yacht's equipment and not to need a separate SSR. However, in several cases in France and possibly elsewhere in recent years, tenders that were used for purposes other than simply ferrying crews back and to from the shore were required to have SSR certification. Some were being used for water-skiing, so that seems fair enough, but in other cases simply exploring along the coast or as a base for snorkeling/diving also require SSR. This subject has been reported in magazines in the past year or so.

You definitely need a SSR for an 18 ft catamaran dinghy.
