I have been asked to set up sailing sessions for our local disability centre. We will be using boats & equipment at the Saltash club.

a) Does anyone know anything about the boats they use there?

b) Any experienced sailors available to help? (the sessions will be on weekdays during the day)

Is this dinghy sailing? If so they race Lasers, Laser 2s, Toppers and National 12s. Hardly the sort of boats for disableds, I would have thought.
If yachts, we race various IRC and PY but no level raters
SSC Thursday night race officer

I'm told the boats can take about 5 people and there is a wheelchair hoist available. I'll know more after we visit in the next week or so. I imagine they must be keelboats.

Re: Update

I can update you , the boat is a sonar, and I skipper it every Thursday evening with 5 /6 takers. There is a hoist on the pontoon to get wheelchair bound people aboard, and more volanteers would be more than welcome.

Re: Sailing for disabled - RYA courses

I must apologise as this is a bit of a sales pitch, but from June 2006, we are offering RYA courses for the disabled (including those in wheelchairs) on a 43ft yacht in Greece.

The yacht is being purpose-built in Italy with lots of special features.

We're very proud to announce this as I believe we are the first RYA training centre to offer Day Skipper & Comp Crew courses in the sunshine to disabled students.

Please see our web site www.aegeansailingschool.com/disabled.htm for more details or send me an email.
