Sailing Dog

We missed having our dog sailing with us on the boat. Lilly, the friendly 10 stone Rottweiler, unfortunately died last year. She loved going on the dinghy and on the boat and she was my young son's best friend, as you can see from the picture below. Sailing without Lilly is not the same anymore and the family + kids are more reluctant to go sailing this year.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Captain. That's a lovely photo you posted.
Our Springer Spaniel enjoys sailing but loves going in the dinghy. He hangs over the bows, watching the bottom, and falls in regular as clockwork.
Are you planning on getting another dog?

Dogs are great on boats, big or small and some dogs absolutely love sailing. Our dog, being extra large, was particularly loved by our kids and our friends kids, where they used to take turns to ride on her and sleep on her in the cockpit; finding a large enough lifejacket to fit a 10 stone dog and transferring from dinghy to yacht and visa versa was a challenge.

We used to go to pub pontoons for a quick drink and crisps for Lily and people got to know her well, she had more friends than me. However, we don't intend to get another dog at present.

Our dog will come on the boat for the first time next year. No idea how that'll turn out for either of us. Walkies every six hours and will he be okay when it gets a bit choppy? We normally feed him barf but without onboard refrigeration I can't see that happening.
