Sailing brownie points - short shelf life -

I find that the hard earned sailing brownie points tend to have a very short shelf life.

For example:

Cutting the lawn - have to be redeemed almost straight away.
Washing the Car, hoovering, unloading the dishwasher etc...same category

Full sailing passes are rare but much sought after things, gold, silver or bronze.

Sneaking the weekend in the diary don't work, an early announcement can fail as well as a last minute dash to the boat..

A Monday morning "the weather looks good for the weekend" can often attract the an undesired reply..

There must be a safe formula

Find several minor(ish) things that SWMBO wants doing on the boat, such as fitting new teak loo roll holder ... and then volunteer to go down and 'do them at the weekend'... works every time....

It helps of course if you have a MAB, rather than an AWB......

Safest one I heard of was booking surprise healthfarm pamper for SWMBO and SWMBO's friend, although expensive it proved remarkably effective.
 
Very. Mrs White enjoys sailing, but gets seasick so forecasts containing the number "6" or the words "moderate to rough" are out. I tend to be vague about the precise wind strength if I can get away with it.
 
Personally I don't get this need for brownie points, nor this whole SWMBO-thing.

When we got married, 15 years ago, she wanted an old-fashioned, traditional wedding. So, I snuck in the old-fashioned "love, honour & cherish" for me; and the equally traditional "love, honour & obey" for her.
Has served me well for 15 years, and I can recommend it
 
Having spent a fair portion of my spare time over the last year renovating a house from top to bottom, totaly single handed except for windows and a roof, I figure I should be way up on brownie points. We moved in just over a week ago and a day out sailing was no problem last Sunday. When I mentioned that I was off this Sunday too it went down like a lead baloon. On that basis, mowing the lawn is probably worth a 5 min read of a boaty mag.

IIRC Ian, it's probably not you sneaking off sailing that concerns your wife but that she may lose you to a mad axe murderer /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

in the year AD 2001, after some 15 years of scheming, i enjoyed (almost) unlimited passes. It lasted 2 years. Foreby, from 1986, we took several sailing type hols (eg greece) each year. the daughter, i noted with increasing delight, enjoyed it. as daughter got older, an element of competition with her mother grew such that one dared the other which culminated, in 2001, with the virtually instant agreement to sail from one, which immediately got the other along as well. Sadly, for me, this state of nirvanna was fleeting when the daughter flew the nest and, even worse, such has no effect on the son.

the moral of this tale seems to be - organise many daughters. however, observations of another who has several, seems to indicate that sibling rivalry takes place and a weekend "with dad" is not viewed as "cool".

So, in conclusion, i fear your quest is without end but will be interested should you find success ...

SWMBO idly ventured today.... "Why don't we just sell the property and get a bigger boat and head off.....!!!!"

Always thought Aria was a nice name for a big boat, especially for the musically inclined - the couple so named that I have seen it seemed to fit.
