As I commented earlier on price - the boots I got, but this in link is "elegant" version for 'sportsmen', with name on it - 20 pounds. http://images.sklepy24.pl/97549383/6421/medium/kalosze-meskie-arctic-875-eva-rozmiar-43.jpg They say this is "special EVA foamed plastic". Weight 700-1000 gram (with the inside sock, size depend). Yes, they are very light, no comparison to PVC or rubber, much lighter then normal leather boots. Warm, I used them on snow in -30
Very non-skid also, that is why I recommend, this foamed plastic is soft and holds to any surface, also wet.
Surely you can find such thing in UK.
After all Henri Lloyd (Henryk Strzelecki) is from Poland. Sadly he passed away this Christmas...

Dubarry boots and Sealskinz socks. You'll never have cold feet again; just get the boots x2 oversize. Sealskinz socks are waterproof, so you keep your tootsies dry when off watch.

I have Henri Lloyd Shadow-boots. Bought them after spending lots of seasons in rubber boots. Would never go back - the Shadows are breathable, warm and watertight, have never had cold feet in them. Just great boots.

I learnt my keeping warm on the open bridges of submarines and no boot will really keep your feet warm that is the job of the socks, back then I had those lovely thick issue sea boot socks, very thick pure wool, even in the artic tootsies as warm as toast even on a bridge that was just big enough for two.

I rediscovered 6 pairs of those (still in their original packaging) tucked away in an old kit box the other day. Proper job!!!

I learnt my keeping warm on the open bridges of submarines and no boot will really keep your feet warm that is the job of the socks, back then I had those lovely thick issue sea boot socks, very thick pure wool, even in the artic tootsies as warm as toast even on a bridge that was just big enough for two.

Although I was a backaftie and left open bridges to the dab toes, I still have and treasure my issue sea boot socks, 25 years on!

If you want inexpensive foul weather gear, check the stores that cater to fishermen. The fishermen around here wear cheap white platic boots. Here's one place on the web where I could find them:

I've got a pair. Comfy, warm and nonslip on decks. Waterproof under normal use, ie; wet cockpits and deck work but my right one leaks very slightly if I use them as wellies ie; standing in water for 5 mins or more such as while launching / retreiving the tender. That's why I got the grub boots (see earlier post) so that I didn't have to subject the leather jobbies to building site conditions!

it's a great pity and a shame on civilization that Crocs do not have a wellie option. If I could find such a thing I would even buy pink ones.

They do, my wife has a pair of yelly ones bought from Seafare in Tobemoray, Mull.

Leaky boot pox

A pox upon leaky sea boots everywhere. I bought a pair of supposedly waterproof Quayside breathable boots on Alderney in January a few years ago and intended to wear them as I sailed back across the channel in a bit of a hooligan - cockpit awash most of the time. The boots leaked and both feet nearly drowned. Had to revert to chilly wellies. So send em back Hadenough and demand replacement - they should be absoutely waterproof after 5 hours, not just 5 minutes. Wet feet on passage in the winter are an abomination.

Warm, waterproof and have superb grip.

+1 Great boot, very comfortable and warm and dry. Had to buy a size bigger than shoes though to get the right fit with a decent sock.

And that is the real point you need a good sock, or it really doesn't matter that much which boot you have

I bought a pair of these at the Marine Superstore last year. They are reasonably tall on the leg, well insulated and for £129 for a warm, breathable leather boot good value.

At this stage I can't comment on longevity, but they seem well made and I am very pleased with them so far.

They do seem to come up a bit small. I am size 9.5 for comfortable shoe fit, and bought 11s to go with a medium thickness walking sock.

I'm afraid that is your problem; a thinner sock with a bit more wiggle room is always warmer than making boots tight with thick ones. Try some Smartwool ones, they make warm thin socks.

The only bit of kit I kept when I retired from the Army was my socks. Lovely high wool content black ones with loop stiching over the foot. Worn inside my oversized BuBarrys, they keep my feet toasty warm. Boots were bought big 'cos they were in a sale but actually, with nice thick socks they fit a treat now; my feet seem to have gone up about a size since we left UK and spend the summers barefoot or in flip flops.......
