Sailing boots recommendations please

Both SWMBO and myself have stopped wearing our dubarys as the soles have gone hard and slippery. Have tried to rough them up but no good. Now consider them dangerous to wear on deck. Others have complained of same - see previous threads. I consider Dubarrys vastly over rated. SWMBO has gone back to using her Gill rubber wellies and I am using a cheap (sale) item Henry Lloyd boots that are good.

I think that is a common problem with all footwear and a good case for cheap shoes and boots.
 
Definitely Doobs.
Try to get the older type with flat sole rather than the new moulded type as the latter model cannot be resoled.
 
Oh my, mine cost a tenner at the boat show err, a few years back (probably about 15) but I hardly ever use them and I still have a useable pair of "old" ones! If launching the tender off the beach I'm usually in sandals or bare feet. If launching the GP14 I'm usually thigh deep so boots aren't a lot of help & I wear 3 quid beach shoes.

I reckon that 2-300 quid for footwear would supply all my shoe & boot requirements for the rest of my life.

I have a pair of these. They were only £17. Basic welly style, had them 2 years and suit me fine, fit me well. Never had anything else so can't compare but they are cheap and cheerful.
 
when my feet decided to expand for whatever age related reason they do , my trusty ultima dubarrys were getting decidedly tight I had them for well over a decade and still in good order .

But , I decided i would try a cheaper make to cut story short must have tried at least 5 pairs of cheaper competitors and even a pricey pair of Henri LLoyds , all leaked some immediateley some couple of months, all returned and refunded , the HL i held out most hope for , very comfy , but let in after 4 months.

In the end mailspeed or similar were selling Dubs ,ultima black grey at £150 so snapped them up and no complaints after a year , but I know Dubarry will fix them if I ever have probs with no fuss .

Tried Rubber boots alongside for hash abouts , but all have split ,

So its dubs for me ole tight one still good to use for snarter sailing where abuse is high , newer for more sedate use on bigger boats .

Ive worked out ££s per year dubs work out cheaper than rubber boots , at least for me .

ps My wife has had a pair of chatham marine ones that lasted well , prob 6 years , replaced now with waveline equivalent (looks like same boot ) at price performance is good .

Ah well I've taken the plunge and bought a pair of Dubarry Fastnets, got them for a good price in a sale. Very comfy and much taller than the Ultima, bound to be waterproof with the Gortex lining, warmth remains to be seen but I've had a size up for extra socks!

I had Gill boots for a couple of seasons, but the seam at the heel started leaking (discovered landing dinghy!!) . Went to Dubarry, Excellent boots - and they do get used to wade ashore at times! Comfortable and offer more protection from abrasion than soft rubber.
