Just thinking after another thread, which boats would forum members suggest for a museum of significant leisure sailing boats of the 20th - 21st Centuries ?

My starters;

-----------

Mirror dinghy

Laser ( original )

International 14 ( each decades' variants )

Leisure 17

Centaur

Contessa 32

Foiler Moth

How about your suggestions ?

I'd have said each of the boats so far suggested do indeed have an interesting history;

The Int 14 with Uffa Fox discovering planing with ' Avenger ' and going across the Channel just to take part in a race,

the Hillyards and Folkboats for introducing so many to sailing - and some epic voyages - the Fairey Atalanta for daring to be different, the Contessa 32 for being the smallest ( and prettiest ) boat to survive the 1979 Fastnet, and so on.

:D

Yep, so far, as I see it, no multi hulls in the Museum Collection :D

Suggest the most important Catamaran, although a One Off, was an Essex based boat, Endeavour; the fastest boat under sail, at one time, and the fastest across the Channel in the Cross Channel race. Beating the 'Avenger' with Uffa Fox in the Cross Channel race'

Otherwise I suppose, one of the other Multi Hull boats built in Essex, like the Reg White designs.

My Cheoy Lee Vertue, of course, would sit in the entrance hall. :)

Chinita,

nice boat; hopefully in our virtual museum she wouldn't be among people trying to flog gazebo's, sports cars and wonder-magical kitchen gadgets !

On a more serious note, I may well have asked you before but have you read ' The Restless Wind ' ?

But I suspect the ubiquitous hot tub's would make an unwelcome appearance! :o

I saw a sailing Catamaran at LIBS once which had a hot tub moulded into the front of the coachroof, I don't imagine the target market was Scotland !

Reminds me of an episode of The Simpsons when Grandpa joins another old guy in the hot tub, which is frothing away merrily - then old guy asks, " Shall I turn the bubbles on yet ? " :)

Something from Robert Tucker whose designs introduced many to hard chined cruisers - Debutant perhaps.

And how about a Hurley 22.
