Some things have dramatically changed sailing and racing - the post war boom in hard chine plywood dinghies like Enterprise, GP14, Mirror; skiffs such as Laser 5000, 49er; foiling Moth; IMOCA 60 yachts; 60 foot tris; foiling America’s Cup cats etc.

So Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts are trying hard for the most over hyped and ridiculous exaggeration in a press release for (yet another) restricted entry, travelling circus event in foiling multihulls.
Having watched and enjoyed the action in the World Match Racing Tour in 32 foot foiling cats at Marstrand, I recognise that close up “stadium racing” in fast cats can be spectacular.
But this just feels like a slight tweaking up of (and duplication with) other similar events like the Extreme Sailing cat events, as well as the Match Racing Tour (which has the distinction of more one on one races).
I wish Chris Draper, Dylan Fletcher and team all the best for their new team. But it feels like another similar thing in an over crowded list of professional spectacle events (albeit in even faster and more expensive foiling cats).
Wonder who is funding the very large teams of professional sailors and support staffs? Or is One Rich American Called Larry Ellison Blowing Millions Weekly (ORACLEBMW) again?
