Hi all

Relaunching tomorrow and following a post elsewhere about saildrive protection and lack of contact.

Somebody had a very clear picture a few months ago of which bits to paint and which bits to leave as bare metal, for anode contact. Now I had a sleepless night wondering if I've been too enthusiastic with the painting! I can check my handiwork tomorrow morning with scotchbrite in hand...

Would anyone please be able to help me with the helpful picture?
Thanks

Basically, you don't put any antifoul on any anode. A saildrive anode needs electrical contact with the saildrive. Never use ordinary antifoul on a saildrive - only use antifoul suitable for use on aluminium, eg Trilux.

Yep thanks, OK on both those steers. The question is: which bits of the saildrive are supposed to be bare metal in order to make contact.

Thanks!

It may depend on the model but for my Volvo saildrive the first section behind the cyclindrical hub is anode. There is another section of about the same width to which it is attached but which forms part of the saildrive. This should be painted but not the anode.

This may make it clear for mine. Shown after haul-out!P1100418 copy.jpg

Thanks - so did you leave as bare metal every surface that is obscured by the anode? I agree the bit just in front is painted.
