It' a lifeguard ORC 6 person liferaft. the painter attaches to a small bridle near the entrance and one end of the bridle is basically velcroed to the liferaft. The velcro ( not sure if it is actually velcro or a tougher version) is the weak link.

IIRC from my sea survival you should save as much painter as possible as it may be useful in a MOB situation or to secure any other flotsam ( e.g. grab bag or water containers) to the liferaft.

Thanks, I am going to have to view mine when it is serviced is 2024.

I think I would feel a tad inconvenienced if due to fire/flood/ whatever I was holding the liferaft alongside for my crew to abandon and the raft....blew away. Leaving me with a bit of line. :(

Just checked as I was sure there was a weak link somewhere. In my case the weak link is part of the Hammar Hydrostatic release thing.
The Hammar H20 release unit consists of a double looped white rope line, a release mechanism and a Red Weak Link™ (breaking strength 2,2 ± 0,4kN).

For smaller liferafts (from 4 persons and outside SOLAS regulation) we recommend Hammar H20 Small Rafts model with a special weak link, identified by the green lower thimble (breaking strength 1,2 ± 0,4 kN). For life rafts smaller than 4 persons, please contact the liferaft manufacturer.
