Spent an hour today with the annual task of cleaning and relubing the bottle screws, so thought I would pass on this tip.
An old toothbrush for the external threads might be quite evident, but for the internals a discarded mascara brush seems to be the perfect tool.

Possibly...
However, they have served me well for 35 years now.
NB these are all stainless steel, so probably more prone to galling than those with bronze body.
